About us

Firecrest Consulting was set up in 1997 by Dr Robin Shipp, following a career of 27 years in the Electricity Supply Industry.

A metallurgist by training, Robin has worked in a wide variety of fields including non-destructive testing, remote inspection and repair, personnel training and certification, British and international standards committees and technical writing. He is involved in the work of professional institutions and is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the British Institute of Non-destructive Testing.

Robin's experience has ranged from R&D to site investigations, he is familiar with the problems of technology transfer and the need to communicate effectively to a wide audience.

Robin left Nuclear Electric Ltd in March 1998 to set up Firecrest Consulting, a company designed to provide consultancy, project support and technical authoring. The company covers a wide range of science, engineering and technology topics with particular expertise in non-destructive testing, remote inspection and repair, and personnel training and certification.
